"Terrible experience - BEWARE international buyers — especially customers in Canada"
One of the worst online shopping experiences I’ve had.
Imaginary Authors advertised “free shipping” to Canada during checkout, yet failed to clearly disclose that customers could later be hit with massive customs, import, and brokerage charges. After placing my order, I was blindsided with nearly CAD 150 in additional fees just to receive the package.
This is not a minor oversight — it is a serious lack of transparency. Presenting “free shipping” without prominently warning international customers about substantial additional charges creates a highly misleading checkout experience. Material costs that dramatically affect the true purchase price should be disclosed clearly before payment, not after the order is already placed.
What made this even worse was the company’s response. I reached out respectfully, explained the situation, and asked whether any reasonable accommodation or goodwill resolution could be offered. Despite being a returning customer who genuinely liked their products and had previously supported the brand, they refused to help.
As a result, what should have been an exciting purchase turned into an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience. Instead of feeling valued as a customer, I felt misled and dismissed.
The fragrances themselves may be well-reviewed, but transparency, honesty, and customer support matter just as much as the product. After this experience, I will never purchase from Imaginary Authors again, nor would I recommend the brand to anyone I know. International buyers — especially customers in Canada — should proceed very carefully and be prepared for potentially huge hidden import costs that are not adequately disclosed during checkout.

I ordered a few samples from imaginaryauthors.com, and everything showed up exactly as I picked it. No wrong scents, nothing missing, which I know is the main thing a lot of us worry about when ordering fragrance samples online.
The only reason I’d take off a star is because the shipping updates were a little slow, so I wasn’t totally sure when to expect the package. Still, the order accuracy was perfect, and I’d definitely order again.

I ordered a sample set from imaginaryauthors.com, and one of the scents stayed on my hoodie pretty much the whole day. Even after work, I could still catch a little bit of it, which was kind of nice. It made the day feel a bit more personal, like I was carrying a small reminder of something I enjoyed. Really happy with how long it lasted.

I accidentally ordered the wrong thing, so that was totally on me, but the return process was super easy. No hassle, no confusion—just quick and straightforward.

"Pretty great sillage on this one"
I ordered this from Imaginary Authors and it showed up just fine, no issues at all. The thing I noticed most was the sillage, it lingers nicely without feeling like too much. I even got a couple comments at work a few hours after putting it on. Overall, I’m happy with it and would definitely order again.

I picked up the discovery kit because I wanted to test a few different scents before committing to a full size. A couple of them were really nice, and a few just weren’t my thing at all. Some of the scents are kind of hard to describe, but it was still fun going through them and seeing what worked for me. For the price, I did expect maybe a little more, but overall I’m glad I tried it

I grabbed a few samples from imaginaryauthors and had a good time trying them out. I liked that most of the scents didn’t feel super “for men” or “for women”, my partner and I both tested them and a couple actually worked really well on both of us. A few were kinda weird at first, but like… in a good way? Not every one was my thing, and one faded quicker than I was hoping, but that’s kinda the point of sampling I guess. Shipping was fine, site was easy enough to use, no real complaints there. I’d buy from them again for sure, just wouldn’t blind buy a full bottle without sampling it firts.

I’ve tried a few fragrances from Imaginary Authors now, they’ve all been really easy to wear. They’re noticeable when someone’s nearby, but they don’t feel loud or overpowering, which I appreciate. On me, they last through most of my workday without turning heavy or weird. If you’re into comfy, low-fuss perfumes that still have a little personality, I’d say they’re worth sampling first and seeing which one works with your skin.

I got this for my sister, and she really liked it. She kept saying it was just what she wanted, so I guess that worked out well. It was nice to see her so excited about that.

I ordered the sample set from Imaginary Authors and it was been fun trying them all out. The whole book theme is cool but doesn’t feel like they’re trying too hard. A few of the scents was amazing, and a couple definitely were not my thing at all. Shipping was fine, no issues there. I’d probably buy a full bottle once I finally decide which one I like best

A few of them smelled really nice at first, but most faded way faster than I expected. I kept wondering if they’re made that way on purpose so you end up using more, because the scent just didn’t stick around.

Most of the scents I tried were actually really good, unique and interesting without being too out there. That said, I did feel a bit misled because a couple of them faded way faster than I expected. The overall quality still seems solid, but I wish the staying power had been more consistent...

"Pretty average pricing overall"
I tried imaginaryauthors.com one time, and the pricing felt middle-of-the-road to me. Like, it wasn’t so cheap that I felt like I’d found some amazing deal, but it also wasn’t so expensive that I felt completely ripped off or anything. It was just kind of average. For what I got, I do think a few parts maybe could’ve been priced a little lower, because some of it didn’t feel like it fully matched the cost. Everything was fine overall, and I wouldn’t say I had a bad experience, but if I needed something similar again, I’d probably shop around and compare a few other options first before deciding.

I really liked how everything felt like its own little story instead of just another regular product page. It made browsing way more fun than I expected!! The site was easy to use too, and it just felt different in a really good way.
